About

I’m Katie Hoffman. I like to make people laugh and think. And then laugh again.

I divide my time among working full time, writing, blogging, pretending to know what I’m doing at the gym, drinking cosmopolitans, and eating desserts. I have a B.A. in English, and I work in downtown Chicago and call the south suburbs home.Between August 2011 and October 2012, I lost 120 pounds, but sadly my endorsement deal with Weight Watchers fell through, so now I’m stuck writing this blog. (I know you’re wondering how I did it, so here’s the secret: reasonable portions, healthy goods, exercise, and self-awareness.)

  2. Hi, I just read about Sass and Balderdash in the Daily Post (how you came up with the name) and clicked onto your blog to have a look – it’s fabulous! Good on you re the weight loss. I am on that little journey myself. Love your “about” page and looking forward to exploring more of your blog!

    1. Welcome and thank you! I wish you all the best with your weight loss. If you ever need someone to cheer you on, feel free to shoot me an email. I know it can be tough some days.

  3. Hi new blog friend! As soon as I finish celebrating the Easter bunny rising from death by chocolate I will be catching up with your posts 🙂 Looks fab around here!

  4. Katie –
Every time I read another of your posts I end up with an ever bigger smile on my face, a sweeter taste in my mind and shake my head in amazement at how easy you make it sound.
I feel pretty assured that I’m the only one that does twenty-rewrites on everything. Maybe twenty-five if I don’t like the color of the block quote.
I’d appreciate it if you’d follow me at http://www.nocturnaladmissions.net to share your thoughts, experience and insight.
Been writing for decades. Always something new to learn.
    Thanks,
    Harris

    1. Harris,
Thank you so much! I love reading your words of encouragement. You are definitely not the only one who does rewrites. I just followed your blog, and I’ll be checking it out soon! Thanks for reading and for your kind words–they don’t go unnoticed.

      1. Thanks for joining me in the late night hours.
Those of us who tend not to reel in those thoughts which might escape our better judgment and burst out into their own territory are a delightful bunch.
You are the life of the party, and I find it a bit easier to cut loose after the jump start I get from you and a few other of our mutual cronies.

And that short reply took me four rewrites
        Make that five.

Welcome to my world, kid. Nice to have you.

  5. Let me start off by saying sasshole is almost the best word I have heard in my lifetime! I adore and respect word mashing in all its glory! I have been one to need wit, humor and writing as an outlet all my life so that I do not spontaneously combust. I am finally going to give this blogging thing a shot because I am constantly harassing people with my conversation anyways so why not write it down! I always feel like it is harder to put in to actual words than just ramble on verbally. Please impart some wisdom on me about how to just blog it down so that it is quality, how do you just keep that going? Do tell!

    1. Thank you! I’m a huge fan of word mashing, too. Congrats on starting to blog! I’ll be blogging here for two years as of September. I key to blogging about your opinions and/or life is to always tell a story people want to read. Make it funny, vibrant, and interesting. Even the most mundane thoughts or events can come alive with the right words. Perhaps most important, though: find your voice and don’t be afraid to use it. It’s easy to be influenced by other blogs/bloggers, but what’s going to make your blog special is its authenticity, and that’s something only you can provide. 🙂

  6. P.S. bravo on the weight loss, I myself am a lifelong, card carrying member of the perpetual dieters club. I think I will start gaining frequent flyer miles soon because I am just that frequent at restarting after epic fails 🙂

  7. Sorry for the random comment, I do apologize but I have been contacting my likers because I switched over to wordpress.com so that people can actually follow me in their feed and I am not sure who was on my original following list! If you were one you can now go to my page and click follow and if you were not please feel free to ignore me 🙂

  8. Hey! I’m not sure what your policy is on awards, but I think you deserve the recognition so I’ve nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award! =]
There is no pressure to accept, participate, or follow the rules exactly.
If you are interested, you can check it out here: http://wp.me/p374p6-1uS

  9. I love reading your blog so much. It makes me laugh so much, I couldn’t breathe! You make blogging look like it is so easy. I am also a blogger and I know that sometimes it can be hard to know the perfect thing to say. But it is so inspiring to see that you do. Thank you for blogging and making my day!

  10. Your blog is awesome! Seriously, haven’t seen a lot that could comapre to yours. Keep doing whatever you are doing to achieve all this. *clicks follow*

  11. I’ve been creepily following you on Twitter and finally stopped being so lazy and actually took time to come check out your blog. There’s really no point to this comment. I just wanted to stop being a secret creeper.

Don't you sass me! ...Actually, please do.
